What Do Latitude And Longitude Mean?
Latitude measures north and south from the equator. The equator is zero degrees latitude, the North Pole is 90 degrees north, and the South Pole is 90 degrees south. In decimal notation, northern latitudes are positive and southern latitudes are negative. A valid latitude must remain between -90 and 90.
Longitude measures east and west from the Prime Meridian at Greenwich. The Prime Meridian is zero degrees longitude, eastern longitudes are normally positive, and western longitudes are negative. Six decimal places preserve a precise numeric value, yet a phone reporting a 30-metre accuracy radius is not survey-grade simply because the result contains six decimals. Keep source precision when transferring a value and keep its accuracy context when decisions depend on the point.

What Is WGS84?
WGS84 means World Geodetic System 1984. It is a global reference framework widely used by GPS and web mapping. Which Coordinate Mistakes Should You Check?
Swapped coordinate order is common. Latitude must remain from -90 to 90, while longitude can reach -180 to 180. Missing minus signs can move a point across the equator or Prime Meridian. South and west normally become negative values in decimal degrees. Decimal commas can also be confused with the comma separating a pair.
Degrees, minutes, and seconds cannot be pasted into a decimal-only field without conversion. Do not invent additional precision when a source is rounded.
